Warrnambool is situated at the west end of the Great Ocean Road. The drive from Melbourne is about 7 hours, or if you go inland it will be about 3.5 hours. Warrnambool is a fairly large town (31,000), and is the gateway to the south west corner of Victoria.
It has a great retail centre which sits on the coast next to a sheltered harbour, and the town is slowly spreading out into the country side. It is sandwiched by two beautiful rivers, and surrounded by rolling pastures that sustain the local dairy industry.
Warrnambool has a lot to see and do, from the arts, cultural, historical, and natural. It is renowned as one of the major family summer holiday destinations in Victoria.
Most importantly, it has two secondhand bookshops, and two new bookshops. It is on the south east corner of the Book Trail, and is and easy one and a half hour drive to Portland or Hamilton.
