We aren’t your average secondhand bookshop. Whilst our exterior may loom large & unfriendly, the interior of our shop is colourful & spacious (prams & wheelchairs can easily be accommodated), and our stock is chosen with a very selective eye.
Our main focus is on literary fiction, literary criticism, art, biography, and Australian & World history. We also have a lot of crime & true crime, sci-fi/fantasy, travel, self-help & psychology, women’s issues, and plenty of titles for children & young adults.
We have recently added an art gallery, resurrected from the remains of the old Masonic Hall kitchen and amenities. We have some amazing pieces of artwork in the gallery space, and throughout the shop, some are for sale, and some are on permanent display.
In short, something for everybody.

Port Fairy Bookshop, 50A Sackville St, is “the smallest shop in town” to quote almost everybody who visits. We are, however, proud of our stock and are continually complimented on the range that we carry considering the lack of space. Squeals of delight can often be heard from customers upon their finding a particular treasure after years of searching.

Port Fairy is an historic seaside village located between Warrnambool and Portland. It is a very picturesque town, sitting on the edge of the Moyne River, which provides a safe harbour to many sailing boats and the local fishing fleet.
The town is a family tourist haven in January, with numerous beaches, although it is always possible to find your own secluded spot for a quiet read.
The crowds head home for February, and this gives a few months for those who don't enjoy the crowds to enjoy the weather and the space.
Winter in Port Fairy can be the most pleasurable time, with wet and cold days that can be spent in front of one of the many fireplaces around town, or in one of our renowned restaurants or cafes.
There are festivals throughout the year. The biggest draw card is the Port Fairy Folk Festival in March. There are festivals during all of the winter months to celebrate music, food, wine, history, and comedy. The Ex Libris Book Fair is celebrated every September. There is a Spring Music Festival later in the year, and our Moynanna Festival over the Christmas period.
And, most importantly, we have three fantastic bookshops in town.
